Ma said the development of Chinese game industry started in 2001 and the user group of client-based games reached 150 million over the past 12 years, establishing a CNY45 billion market. Meanwhile, the total number of Chinese game users reached 300 million if taking Web games and leisure games into consideration, and the market value reached CNY60 billion.

With the popularization of smartphones, mobile games will gain new opportunities and the user base is expected to reach 300 million by the end of this year.

Ma said mobile games cannot replace PC games; however, they allow users to enjoy the MMORPG game experience on mobile devices. He predicted that in the future, mobile game will be the major sector in the entire gaming market; while TV game and PC game markets will shrink.

Ma said the company will soon launch an integrated mobile gaming platform, which will combine Tencent’s major mobile applications and introduce third-party gaming products. This platform will provide developers and users with background support, ranging from servers to security.

iPi Soft, the leading developer of the markerless motion capture software solution, iPi Motion Capture, announces the iPi Soft Filmmaking Competition. Geared to motion capture filmmakers and animators, the monthly contest is designed to shine a spotlight on the innovative ways both creative professionals and amateurs are relying on motion capture techniques to create compelling digital entertainment content.

Each month the iPi Soft team will select one winning entry based on the quality of the film submission. Entries must be created in part using either the free trial version or a full version of the iPi Motion Capture software. Winners will receive 1 (one) free license of the iPi Motion Capture software (Standard Edition), plus a year of support.

At GBR, we will highlight the monthly winner of this contest and show how they are using the iPi technology to create and capture motion data.

Lukasz Biernat is the March 2013 winner of the iPi Soft Filmmaking contest for his short film entry “Inversus”.

‘Inversus’ – description from the filmmaker:
Inversus tells a story of a everyday worker coming home. He suddenly realizes that there is something wrong in the flat of one of his neighbors. As days go by, letters keep coming, but there is no sign of his neighbours. When he decides to enter that flat, unthinkable things start to happen! See it for your self.

Filmmaker’s notes:
This film started out as a short exercise but quickly turned into a bigger project. The entire movie is animated in 3D. Props and location are based on a real street and house placed in Cracow, where I used to live. The “old film” look was achieved by combining hyper realistic rendering with hand drawn textures blended together with photos

Lukasz Biernat – Bio
Biernat, age 23, hails from Cracow, Poland, and says his love of graphics and animation began when he was just 11 years-old. And since then, he has never looked back. After successfully passing the challenging entry exams at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, Biernat is enrolled in the school’s graphics department where he is presently working on an installation/gallery animation project.
