Amazon Buys Gaming Backend SaaS Developer GameSparks

Amazon has acquired GameSparks, the Backend-as-a-Service game development platform 

The Telegraph has reported that GameSparks acquisition by Amazon is estimated to be worth “tens of millions of pounds”.  The two companies had been partnering together for some time with GameSparks support of AWS, do the acquisition makes a lot of sense for both groups.

GameSparks launched in 2014 and has over 10,000 developers using its backend development platform including some of the biggest media and entertainment companies such as Ubisoft, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, TellTale Games, Capcom, Disney, Ubisoft, Sky, Liberty Global, AT&T, and the BBC. The company currently has offices in York (UK), Dublin (Ireland) and California.

The three company founders Griffin Parry (CEO), Gabriel Page (CTO) and John Griffin (CCO) had all previously worked together at  Sky.
