Activision’s Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is a likely candidate for taking this year’s crown of the best selling video game and it has a decent shot at hitting a new record as fastest selling video (in history) as well. Announced on May 1, Amazon.com revealed that pre-orders for the gaming are easily beating those of the predecessor Black Ops. Apparently, preorders are three time the volume of the original Black Ops, which was released on November 9, 2010. What is somewhat stunning is that this game will not be released for another six months (November 13).
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series claims the right to hold the title of the fastest selling video game, when the third installment (the eighth for the Call of Duty series) hit more than $1 billion in sales with 16 days of its release in November of last year. Back then, Amazon had said that Modern warfare 3 had delivered 32% more preorders than Black Ops. Black Ops raked in about $650 million in revenue during its first five days on sale.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be published for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Pre-orders are being taken by Activision, Steam, Amazon, Best Buy, Gamestop, and Target for $59.99.
It’s too early to predict any sales pace, but it is quite apparent that Black Ops 2 will be a candidate for the hottest game this year.
